At present, the driving of vehicles in rail traffic is largely based on "gut feeling". The current energy demand exceeds the possible optimum by up to 30%. With the help of the developed tool for optimized driving, the determination of the energy-specific optimal driving speed and acceleration values takes place at a fixed time and with the inclusion of geological altitude data to determine energy recovery potentials. The basis for the tool is an algorithm based on the physical optimum methodology. Integrated equation of motion models with energy demand and energy recovery are used for this purpose.
